We love this warrior II variation from @rachelscottyoga that focuses on activating the external rotators of the front thigh: Place your mat lengthwise against the wall, and stand in the middle of the mat facing the inside of the room, bringing your feet wide. Position your back heel against the wall, turn your front foot toward the front of your mat, and place a block (either on its skinny or medium setting, whichever positions your knee directly above your ankle) between your front knee and the wall. Since studying the traditions of the Buddha and Patanjali my mind has edged towards to realisation that attachment is the cause of suffering. If we wasn't attached to things, objects, people, ways of life then we wouldn't suffer. We would find ourselves saying "it hurts" rather than "I'm hurting". Of course the life cycle began with suffering and of course will end with suffering, but if we let go and find our absolute spirit (puruşa) which is identical to the self then we can lead a life that would potentially lead to enlightenment. This is of course something that takes time and is often something people find difficult to find within themselves. Yoga today in the west is usually practiced to help improve their health, however the original yogins of India did not embark yoga for this reason, they wanted to abolish normality and wipe out their mandune self. Patanjali believed that there was nothing abnormal about yoga, it wasn't magic, it wasn't supernatural it was just a deep connection that when practiced correctly could help the practitioner to find their true self - their puruşa. Patanjali created the yoga sutra and the eight limbs of yoga as a guidance as to how the yogin should lead their lives if they wanted to seek enlightment, these are all of course practices within the teachings of yoga. The more I practice and the more I study then the more I want to be detached from the material world.
